The Ft. Worth Water Gardens, known for it’s nostalgia and beauty, had a new ambiance today. Hundreds of Obama supporters gathered by the scenic waterfalls to celebrate the candidacy of Barack Obama.
“[We] are here today because we know that there needs to be a change in Washington”, Eva Williams says. “I am so excited that we finally have someone in politics that we can believe in…and Barack Obama is that person.”
Food, fun, and laughter gave way to a new meaning of friendship as these enthusiastic supporters shared there views as to why they support their candidate.
“The one thing I love about Barack Obama, it’s not because he’s African American, but because he is wanting change in the government and change in the family.” says Ida Nickerson ” Every time he makes a speech he says ‘you know I can make change in the government, but I need you to start grass-root. If I am working on education in the government, I need you to be educating your kids. And if I am working on instilling morals in the government, I need you to be instilling morals in your kids.’ And I love that more than anything.”
Although Obama has been praised by many for his ability to ignite fire in the youth, the young at heart also took part in this exciting event.
“My name is Sarah Koon and I am 73 years old” says Sarah Koon. “I worked in Dallas Arena where there were 20,000 people. I worked in Ft. Worth Convention where there was 17,000 people. I want you to know that Hillary[Cinton] does not have all the old women. We’ve had women who were in such bad health that I had to help some of them [who] were volunteering for [Obama],working their hearts out, catch their breathes so that we could continue passing out the things we had to.”
As these supporters encouraged one other to do all they can to help elect their choice for the next President of the United States, the enthusiam and excitement filled the park as many joined in with songs and poems written from the heart.
“Oh gosh!!! I mean does this country and this nation need a change.” Diane Jay says. “Everyone you talk to has a different personal issue. And Senator Obama can address those issues. He is the man that can unite this country and bring everyone together.”
